Sandwich Wars: The Deli is the Superpower

I moved out of northern NJ in 1986. and have been looking for a decent bagel, slice of pizza and sub ever since. After decades of searching I found 'The Deli'. They actually call themselves the Deli and are located in several locations including DC, Fairfax, Herndon and Lansdowne VA. Here at The Deli you will find a sub worthy of any Italian American deli of NJ, NY or PA.

My favorite location is 19350 Diamond Lake Dr at Lansdowne Va. The owner is very friendly and generous. His shop is the SuperPower of Subs. You may call it a hoagie, submarine, hero, grinder, blimp, zeppelin, torpedo or a variety of other regionally derived names. But whatever you call it the best of the best is found at The Deli in of all places, Northern Va.

The sandwich pictured below is called the Madd Italian. It is packed with Mortadella, Salami, Pepperoni, Capicollo and Provolone. Topped with a delicious blend of lettuce, tomatoes, onion, sweet peppers oil, vinegar and Italian spices. 

You no longer need to go to NJ, NY or Philly for a true Italian Sub. The Deli will satisfy those who know what a sub is supposed to taste like. Not only can the Deli compete with the deli's of NJ, NY and PA, I am willing to bet many 'yankees' would admit The Deli is superior to many of their favorite northern deli's.

The 8 inch Madd Italian costs 9.95.  I rate it a 10.  Find 'The Deli' location near you and discover an authentic Italian American Sub.

Now that we found the sub we need to locate some bagels and pizza here in Northern Virginia. 

Earl's is the King of Sandwiches

I came here unsure of what to order. The sandwiches arr alkm appealing but honestly they are not your normal run if the mill sandwiches. I ordered the Pork and Fries sandwich. What can I say it was incredible.

They say the Pork and Fries is their best selling sandwich. I see why.  The pork is cooked perfectly. The ciabata bread is soft and delicious. The blend of chipotle mayo, roasted peppers, chopped onions and sweet pickles create an incredible blend of spicy and sweet. Then the topper real french fries within the sandwich.

This is  small shop on Wilson Blvd in Arlington VA that is a must visit for all foodies especially those that appreciate delicious and unique sandwiches.

The shop is small. The dining space is tight but this provides the feel of a genuine sandwich shop. The people are friendly and they not only make incredible sandwiches but they also like people.

Winging It at Manassas City Grill

Many years ago I worked at this place when it was called Pargo's. Those wings were phenomenal. But that was another millenium. City Grill ' s version look just as good. But in the Wingin world looks don't really matter.

As I bite into my first drummette I am very pleased with the crunch. The wings are medium size but very meaty. The blue cheese is my first disappointment. It is runny and appears to be mostly buttermilk with a few small crumbs of blue cheese. After getting over my blue cheese blues  I continue to work the wings. I find something missing. After another wing I realize what's missing.... Flavor. These wings have the look but lack that buffalo flavor.

I sprinkle on some salt and pepper but that doesn't quite do it. Justin my waiter comes by frequently to keep my soda filled and make sure I am good to go. I don't mention the flavorless wings instead order a side of sauce. I hope to find more flavor. I pour some sauce over my next wing it helps a little. Desperate for flavor I begin dipping the wing in the buttermilk excuse me the blue cheese then pouring the side of sauce on top. It helps and after some work i am able to finish my wings with some flavor.

I ordered my wings Buffalo hot. They offer mild and for an extra cost you can order BBQ and a few other flavors. I am all for charging enough to cover costs and making a profit but really how much more does 2 oz of bbq sauce cost over buffalo sauce.

Overall I am disappointed with City Grill wings mainly because they lack flavor, water down their blue cheese, and have the audacity to charge extra for bbq sauce. I did enjoy the crunch of the wings and their size and the amount of meat on each wing. The cost of 10.49 is only slightly on the high side of average.

If you do order the wings at City Grille in Mannasas ask for extra sauce on the side so you can mix it up with the blue cheese for some flavor.

Bernie Steals From Hillary Blames DNC of Sabotage

Sometimes I need to stop what I am doing and figure things out one step at a time.

So lets get this right Bernie gets caught stealing voter data from Hillary and then accuses the DNC of undermining his campaign. Bernie's campaign was able to steal the data because of a 'software glitch'. This is an interesting defense. So if you steal a car because there was a glitch with the locking mechanism and the ignition system its really not stealing. According to Bernie arresting the thieve is some sort of harassment. And that thief has a right to sue. 

Here is where I need the timeout. 

Lets try to break this down:

On Wednesday December 16 Hillary Clinton  learned of a breach.

Also on Wednesday Bernie  fired a staffer for the breach.

We are not sure which occurred first:

Did Hillary learn of the breach because of the firing 
                                   or
Did Bernie fire his guy after Hillary found out about the data breach. 

It turns out this occurred months ago or perhaps that was an additional occurrence. 

Bernie jumped up and fired his guy but it turns out four of his guys accessed the data. Not only did they "accidentally" access the data they also searched, queried and copied the data to other files.Seemingly accidental of course.


Bernie's Campaign Manager Michael Briggs is blaming the data software company for leaving the keys in the car 

You can read article after article as this story unfolds but the story we get will never be the truth. these guys are all just slick bullshi77ers who massage and manipulate the truth to a point that makes it impossible for anyone to even know the original point. 

So many Americans in the intel world have been put at risk when their personal security information was breached. It is the incompetence of not only Bernie Sanders but all his fellow political pals who are running this country. But you will never hear that from them.



Lets face it Honor and Integrity are values that do not exist in Washington DC. This will not change until We The People can find the resolve to take back out country. I fear without the resolve of We the People our nation is going to experience a mighty fall.

GAME RECAP

EAGLES
The Eagles squeaked out a win against the Bills. They have been playing closer to their preseason expectations the past month. A win against a tough Arizona team will show the Eagles are ready to make their run. A loss and they will need to beat the Redskins and the Giants to close out the season.

REDSKINS
The Redskins also squeaked out a victory against Da Bears. A missed field goal by the Bears in the final seconds secured the Redskins victory. The Redskins hold the tie breakers and they have the easiest schedule. They can win out against the Bills, Eagles and Cowboys to give them the NFC Least Championship but this team could also lose out and wind up in the cellar.
  
COWBOYS 
The Cowboys take on the hot Jets this week. Then head to Buffalo and finish the season hosting the Redskins. The Cowboys ran into injury issues early but regardless the current issue is Matt Cassel he should be playing much better. His win against the Redskins two weeks ago might have acted as a catalyst but the Packers were not so generous. The game was closer then the 28-7 score. Cassel can't take all the blame as Dez Bryant Cowboys big mouthed star receiver had several balls bounce out of his hands. Bottom line because of the horrendous play of the NFC Least the Cowboys are not out of the playoffs yet. Win out and each of their NFC Least opponents can lose 2 of their 3 final games. Looking briefly at the tiebreakers the Cowboys appear to hold the advantage in a 3 or 4 team tie. But the bottom line: one loss and its over. 

GIANTS
The Giants proved the best defense is a good offense. The 2015 Giants defense has lostin the final minutes 5 times this year. Eli and Odell were not taking any chances against the Dolphins. Leading by one touchdown the Gmen held onto the ball the final 4 minutes. Giant fans were excited to see the smidgen of sacks QB pressures and a run game emerge. If they want a chance at the title they better bring it this week against the Panthers. Panthers enter the game without their leading rusher Jonathan Stewart. Wide Recevier Ted Gin is banged up but looks like he will start. It is Cam Newton and TE Greg Olsen who match up very well against a slow and poor tackling defense of the Giants. Eli could have a carrer day but if the Giants cant stop Newton and Olsen all will be lost.

The Giants have the toughest schedule remaining in the Least. They have to rely on winning one more then the Eagles and Skins. Its gonna be tough but there is still hope.

GAME RECAP

EAGLES
The Eagles stunned Tom Brady and the Patriots defeating them 35-28. Sam Bradford himself looked a bit stunned with the outcome but then again he kind of always looks a bit stunned.

Perhaps this victory will propel the dirty birds forward to the coveted NFC Least title.

REDSKINS & COWBOYS
After only achieinvg a combined 2 1st downs in the first quarter we knew this was going to be a long game. Both teams waited to the final minutes of the 4th quarter before they each put up a touchdown but it was the Cowboys who managed to end their 7 game Romoless losing record and sent Redskin fans home crashing back to earth.

GIANTS
Once again the Giants cannot hold on to a lead in the 4th quarter and fans have got to question yet again the teams decision making process. Some may say Coughlin was showing his faith in his team with 4th and 2 on the Jets 4 yard line. A field goal extends the Giants lead to 23 -10. Not only did the Giants not convert but Eli threw an interception in the end zone which gave the Jets the ball on their own 20. And the fans had the privileged to once gain watch a team come from behind and defeat the Giants in the waning seconds of a game.

Giants had the opportunity the past two weeks to beat the Redskins and the Jets and take control of the NFC Least. Looking at teh schedule these teams and the upcoming Miami Dolphins were games the Giants needed to win because the final three weeks they face the Caroline, Minnesota and finish the season with the Eagles.

GAME RECAP

STD's Take Over Giants

The GMEN Special Teams and Defense win this game. Each unit scored a TD and both caused turnovers. The defense had 3 interceptions one returned for a TD and Special Teams recovered a fumbled punt that prevented the Cowboys from having one last drive.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had two of the Giants three interceptions and returned one 58 yards for a touchdown.

Dwayne Harris returned a kickoff 100 yards. Harris spent 4 yeas with the Cowboys before signing a 5 year $17 million dollar deal with the Giants. The kick off return occurred in the 4th quarter after the Cowboys tied the game at 20. Some were critical of the Giants for signing Harris to the deal but it certainly paid off in Week 7. Harris also received the NFC Special Teamer of the Week award.

The Cowboys held the ball for 38 minutes vs the Giants 22. Even more interesting is the fact the Cowboys lead the NFL in Time of Possession for the season yet only have 2 wins.
